This holiday season here at Samaritan House, we are wishing for safety, joy, and hope for the families we serve. But we aren’t writing to Santa for these things. Instead, we are reaching out to the Hampton Roads community to do what they do best.
From the men and women who choose to serve all branches of the military, to the Give Local 757 initiative that has raised $1.8 million for over 350 nonprofits, our region knows a thing or two about service and giving back.
We have seen this generosity in our donors and our volunteers, who continue to support our mission in a variety of ways. We see it in the conversations while we are out in the community, talking with business owners, churches, and members of clubs or groups that ask us, “How can we help?”
We see it in the support from those who follow our work on our Facebook page and rush to the aid of a mother in need as she prepares to give birth to her son amidst uncertainty transitioning to safe housing in time for her delivery date. (If you need a smile today, click here.)
We see it in our recurring donors, who generously sign up to make a monthly donation – whether large or small – that directly supports the work we do and provides for consistent support for our clients.
We see you, Hampton Roads. And this year for the holidays we are asking for your help. We are working to ensure that all of the women, men and children we serve are taken care of for the winter months. This includes everything from holiday decorations, delicious meals, and presents to open on Christmas morning, but also means that utilities are paid for. It means GED exam costs are covered, transportation is provided, the food cabinets remain stocked, counseling sessions continue, legal advocacy with our staff moves forward, children’s art and play therapy keeps helping them work through their trauma, and all our families are able to be housed safely and securely away from the grips of violence.
We invite you to help us bring our clients HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS by making a year-end contribution around this special time of year. Every family deserves to feel safe, comfortable, hopeful and HOME during the holidays.
Can we count on you to be there to help this holiday season? We provide resources to individuals and families experiencing violence, homelessness and human trafficking in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton and Williamsburg!
