The weather seems to have a hard time making up its mind lately but we are inching closer and closer to warmer temperatures and more time spent outside!

We’ve got good news for our Hampton Roads friends who have a heart for giving back or who enjoy spending time on the green playing a round of golf! We have some upcoming events and volunteer opportunities we are so excited to share with our supporters. Help spread the word and share the following with anyone who may be interested:

T.A.G. – “Take Action. Give” Spring Campaign

No child deserves to be a victim or witness to violence at home. Samaritan House is the trusted resource for individuals and families trapped by violence who need a safe way out. We remove obstacles that keep victims stuck in an abusive relationship. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month as well as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and we have identified a pressing need to expand our ability to provide safe, reliable daycare coverage for children as their mothers return to work after leaving their abuser, or perhaps start working for the first time. Take Action and Give to help break the cycle of violence for children and their parents.

4th Annual Women Against Violence (WAV) Luncheon – Westin Town Center Virginia Beach

Women Against Violence is a group of female business owners and professional women who are committed to ending violence in all forms and supporting the work of Samaritan House in the community. Together, we are hosting this year’s luncheon and welcome special guest – Audrey Mabrey – who survived her ex-husband setting her on fire in a brutal attack in 2009. Anyone in the community is encouraged to attend to hear impactful survivor stories and learn how to better combat violence in our communities. (Volunteers & table/event sponsors needed!)

Spring Cleaning (Ongoing opportunities)

We own and operate 12 emergency shelters throughout Hampton Roads, which provide immediate relief and safety for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. Because of the ongoing turnover of these homes, there are always opportunities for cleaning and minor maintenance projects, as well as some outdoor landscaping and beautification work to help make these houses feel more like home! Please contact Eva at for more information on participating in one of our Spring Cleaning projects with your school, church, business or other group.

We are so grateful to be immersed in a community that consistently asks us: “What can I do to help?” And the answers may change throughout the year but there are always opportunities to help! Whether you can donate time, items, money or simply helping us spread the word about what we do, you have a role in this story of helping victims of violence.

For any questions regarding the above events or how you can get more involved in our work, please contact our Marketing & Events Coordinator, Eva Fuze at or 757-323-6164.
