SAMARITAN HOUSE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Samaritan House volunteers are passionate and generously share their time and talents to help support our mission. We simply would not be able to help and reach as many persons affected by violence in our community without their steadfast support. Among the many ways you can assist Samaritan House are with the following volunteer opportunities:

Donations Department

Volunteers in the donations department are integral to keeping our donations organized for our program participants. Volunteers help sort donations as they arrive at the department, and organize the clothes closet, pantry, and other areas. Volunteers report to the Donation Department manager.

Emergency Housing Caretaker

To support the Samaritan House Case Managers and the Volunteer and Facilities Supervisor by ensuring that the houses are well maintained, safe, and welcoming to assure quality living conditions for the survivors we serve.

Child Minding

To assist the Children’s Department in the nurturing and care of children or of program participants utilizing the services of Samaritan House, and provide child care for the parents in our programs during appointments and support groups. The volunteer will report to Children’s Department Volunteer Coordinator.

Transportation

To assist staff with providing transportation for program participants to groups and various appointments. The volunteer will report to Children’s Department Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator.

Crisis Response Team

This position is responsible for conducting crisis interviews with callers via the 24-hour hotline. Crisis Response Volunteers will be available by phone to victims at critical times from any community-based setting. Volunteers staff the crisis hotline during assigned shifts, provide advocacy, triage, and information and referral to victims of violence in need. Staff backup will be available at all times for accompaniment of the victim to community-based services as well as emergency housing options. Volunteers will report to the Intake Department Volunteer Manager and may have brief interactions with Victim Advocates.
